Vanitas / Memento Mori
Still lifes concerned with mortality, transience and the passage of time. Drawing on the symbolism of seventeenth-century vanitas painting, these works use objects such as skulls, candles, hourglasses, glass, books, fruit and natural specimens as reminders of impermanence.
Portraits
Portraits influenced by the composition, lighting and visual authority of European painting. Rather than straightforward historical reconstruction, these works use costume, gesture and setting to explore character, identity and the way portraiture has shaped how we see ourselves.
Still Life
Constructed still lifes inspired by Dutch and Flemish painting, combining flowers, shells, natural specimens and collected objects. Many are deliberately impossible arrangements, bringing together elements that could not ordinarily coexist in the same place or season.
Selected Works
Constructed photographic narratives exploring history, allegory, symbolism and the human condition.
